Brig Gen. Mohammad Mustafa Kamal, afwc, psc (Retd) fieb, Chief Executive Officer, Taxi Cab project, Toma Group.
“Toma Group now has 40 fully air-conditioned taxies on the road. We hope to field about 250 cabs in the next few months. To avail Toma taxies anyone can call our call centre number 01755667070 and the cab nearest to him or her will rush to the desired location,” he said.
“We can monitor our taxies from here,” Brig Gen Kamal said taking us around the Operations Room. “The taxies are equipped with GPS, vehicle tracking system, wireless and cameras which can take videos or still pictures. People manning Operations Room can see where the taxies are and whether there are passengers and also if the taxies are empty or not.”
At the end of the journey, the passenger is given printouts of the fare. Payment can be made in cash or by credit cards as cards are accepted. Total breakup is given in the printout. VAT is included in the fare, he said.
The drivers are trained for a week after their selection, given uniforms and cell phone sets to keep contact with the office and inform of trouble if there be any. In case the driver is unable to talk, he can press a button and the Operations Room will know the driver and the vehicle is in danger, Brig Gen Kamal said.
The drivers have been trained to behave politely with the passengers. We are paying them well. They also get a percentage of commission if they attain a certain income limit.
On the minimum qualifications of a driver, he said, “The drivers have to be physically fit, should not suffer from hypertension or colour blindness.”
